Nutria on the Loose

It is time to do some urban wildlife and flower photography again. This nutria was enjoying himself at Hermann Park. You can't see it in this photo, but he had one big ugly orange buck tooth, and one white one. I would run the cowboy effect on him, but he is grizzly enough already.

While Ozzy and Lou make pretty good subjects, I don't think that this rat would have looked any better if it had a 10 gallon Chinchilla Stetson on its pointy little head.
It's too bad you did not have a snake charmer (22/410 Over/Under) instead of your Nikon.

This little fellow was just doing what all creatures do - build a home, gather food for the table, generally make things good for his family. Unfortunately he should be in South America instead of a Houston park. They are blamed for a lot of the marsh damage in South Louisiana: http://www.nutria.com/site4.php

I'm thinking this mighty mouse could have made a mighty nice Thanksgiving day meal that both Louie and Ozzie would have enjoyed.

I have slip and slide pictures with a nutria rat from college... no lies. I may have to send you a copy.
